Care assistant secures £8k after injury at work

news image A care assistant from the north-east has won compensation of £8,000 as a result of an injury she sustained while at work.

Margaret Yates was helping to dress an elderly woman who was immobile at the Grange Residential Care Home on Whinbush Way in Darlington when she suffered the damage.

She was lifting the lady from her bed while trying to reach around her and pull up her undergarments when she seriously hurt her back.

Commenting on the incident, she said: "If I'd known how to dress her or any other of the residents properly, or been given access to training, I would have adopted a safer method instead."

Ms Yates was left in considerable pain and was unable to complete simple domestic tasks for several weeks.

The 58-year-old eventually left her job at the care home as a result of her injury.
