Firm prosecuted after man injured in workplace accident

news image A company has been prosecuted following an incident in which one of its employees sustained a serious injury.

The staff member had been helping to move five pizza ovens, one at a time, from an assembly bench to pallets on the floor without the assistance of mechanical aids.

He sustained a severe injury to his groin in the process of transferring the items.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the worker and his supervisor had not been made aware of how heavy the ovens were or how they should be moved.

During a recent hearing at Lincoln magistrates' court, Lincat - a catering equipment supplier which was established in 1971 - was fined £19,400 and ordered to pay £4,800 in costs.

"Employers must ensure that this sort of work is properly planned to take account of health and safety risks," stated HSE inspector Dr Ian Ellison.
