Patients consider legal action against surgeon
Former patients of a cosmetic surgeon are considering taking legal action against him after he was issued a warning by a medical disciplinary panel.
Recently, Dr Ashish Dutta - who runs a clinic in the Tyne and Wear city of Sunderland - was issued the warning by a General Medical Council after it was found that his actions in two eyelift operations constituted misconduct, the Sunderland Echo reports.
However, the panel also found that his skills have improved since then and his fitness to practice was not impaired.
It ruled that he had remedied his actions by admitting fault and taking part in further training.
During the hearing, two patients gave evidence about their experiences of having under-eye bag removal operations.
In both cases, it was found that Dr Dutta made incisions at "more than acceptable" distance below the eyelash margin.
When contacted about by the Sunderland Echo about the issue, he declined to comment.
