Woman receives £80k after husband died from asbestos exposure
A woman whose husband died as a result of exposure to asbestos has been awarded compensation of £80,000.
Anne Warnes secured the amount in an out-of-court settlement with her late spouse John's former employer, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Mr Warnes died from mesothelioma - a cancer of mesothelial cells which can develop in the tissue covering the lungs or the abdomen.
He had been married to his wife, who is now 73 years old, for 50 years.
During his career, he had travelled around the world doing general repairs and mechanical work at RAF fields both in the UK and abroad.
He began legal proceedings himself when he discovered he was ill but asked his wife to take over as his condition worsened.
Commenting on her fight, Ms Warnes said: "He told me he wanted for me to carry on with the case, right through to the end to help raise awareness about what had happened to him."
